“Alcohol in a Religious Town”

Senior Thesis (Eric Mogren, Northern Illinois University, Spring 2009)

By analyzing newspaper articles, Wheaton, Illinois city council notes, the Illinois State Constitutions, home rule laws, and laws from other states and cities, I argue that after being a dry town for 98 years, Wheaton repealed prohibition in 1985 because of the change in its citizens’ stance toward alcohol and for economic reasons.
